Glass Half Empty

The media sucks. It has taken me 21 years of a conservitive upbringing and about 21 seconds of actually watching the news to come to this conclusion.
If you've ever watched television I'm sure you've seen that in spite of his lack of moral integrity, Clinton The First was made out to look like Christ. I have no doubts that if Clinton The Second wins in '08 this will be the media's version of the Second Coming.
In all honesty, this isn't a political rant (or maybe it is; you decide), I'm just tired of the media. I'm tired of their spin on the truth and I'm tired of the mindless idiots who follow them blindly.

Enough is enough.

I know that everyone has a bias (I'm sure you can't tell where mine lies) but I always thought, naively I suppose, that it was the job of the journalist media to report news.
I know, I know, that's just silly. You can stop laughing now.
I'm sure everyone knows that the American death toll in Iraq is "rapidly" approaching 3,000, if we haven't already hit it. But let's stop and think about the fact that it has taken this extremist group 3 years to kill 3,000 of our mighty defenders on their own turf. Let us also remember that they killed that many people in a matter of hours on our own turf. That's why we're there. To prevent more, unexpected, purposeless death to our own people and whoever else this group decides they don't care for.

Now that I've mentioned statistics you already knew, let's talk about the stats you had no idea existed. Did you know that women voted for the first time EVER in Iraq history because of the U.S. invasion? Did you know that more schools have been built, and even more children are attending school than ever before? Did you know that their water is cleaner? Did you know that they are (with U.S. assistance) developing their own means of self-defense so that our troops can finally come home? Did you know that they are establishing a sound system of governement so that men like Saddam Hussein can not take over their country anymore and drive it into a state of depression? (Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.) These are all great things that we, as the country who is aiding them, should be proud of. But more than that, let's be happy for the people of Iraq who, in spite of the war, are experiencing peace without their former leader.
Why is it, that you haven't heard about these wonderful things? Why did I have to scour the internet to find them? Because my friend, we are bombarded by the unaplogetic media who are drinking glasses of water that are half empty.

Home Sweet Home

I'm quite excited about this new blog I've started. I believe this is obvious to anyone who would read it, as I just posted yesterday, and I am posting again today. I just can't help myself.
Fortunately there are a plethora of topics out there to discuss and I just happen to be opinionated enough to discuss them. So here it is straight from me to you.....
I love the country in which I live, I love the fact that there are men out there willing to defend it. (I just happen to be betrothed to one) I even love the fact that we are a melting pot of different peoples and cultures. It's what makes the US so great and appealing. The appealing part is where my oppinion comes in.
Unless you live in a cave with no television, internet, or access to people, you've heard what's presently taking place in "our world".
The people of Mexico, who have made their way into this country illegaly, are trying to change their status to citizenship. This is, of course, after milking the American people for their hard-earned tax dollars with no intention to repay. This is not to say that there aren't people from other countries who wouldn't love to do the same thing. The Mexicans just scream the loudest.
Please do not misunderstand me, if they weren't getting hired by corrupt business owners in this country, they would have no reason to be here. You can't live on nothing in this country, we're capitalists.
Anyway, I'm sure there is a point in all of my ramblings. I'm no racist, in fact, I think that our country would be an even more well-oiled machine (no pun intended), provided our citizens have half the work-ethic of a Mexican. Just do it legally. People have done it before, and people will continue to do it.
Plus, who wants to live the rest of their life in a state of paranoia?

Copper Is Key

Why is it that blondes have such a bad rep? This question has always plagued me as I myself am a blonde and just happen to be intelligent. I have been so intrigued with the origin of this stereotype lately, that I decided to Google it.
It turns out that noone is quite sure where this stereotype came from. Wikipedia states that it could have been derived from the sometimes light hair color of (caucasian) babies whose hair darkens as they get older. Thus associating light hair with youth/stupidity. Other possibilities listed are actresses who play up the "dumb blonde" role in movies or television shows, the false belief that bleaching your hair kills brains cells, and even Puritans that associated light or blonde hair with prostitution!
The best explanation I could find was copper. Apparently, dark and red hair has more copper in it. Copper was associated with intellect, and since blonde hair has less copper in it, those donning this hair color were seen as less intelligent.
Wherever your oppinion lies in this matter, it's always interesting to find out where certain ideals come from. Hopefully though, I can change your view to a more positive outlook on the blonde community.
